If there is anything clear about DJ Marquis, it's that he's a man who defines rather than allowing himself to be defined. From Rap, to Dance, to Rock to mixing Music Videos, his mixing talent knows no boundaries and DJ Marquis has also recorded accomplished work in each of these genres as well as much work that blurs the boundaries.

For those who like neat and tidy definitions, DJ Marquis may be unsettling. But for those who dare!

DJ Marquis' electric and innovative blend of sounds has its roots in his DJ career. Marquis began as a fan of all types of music. From jazz to house, to alternative, to hip-hop, his record collection has it all and Marquis incorporates all of these styles into his DJ sets. Understanding that a DJ has the power to not just play music, but to create an atmosphere, he soon began playing across metro Detroit's extensive cabaret / club scene, spinning a mixture of old school, house, hip-hop and current favorites.
Working with PBS affiliate WTVS, he put together music for the Emmy Award winning youth program, "Club Connect" and produced soundtracks for various documentaries.

And he didn't stop there. He began producing a number of events and providing major and indie label touring acts to the Detroit area.
More interested in making good music than being tied to a style, he began production work with a number of rap and dance music artists as well as learning more of the technical end as an engineer. He set up a label, Nu Flava / Mixx Flava Records, which demonstrated his ability to produce a number of different musical styles.

Detroit's number one dance music radio station, WDRQ 93.1, ask Marquis to bring even more flavor to the station's already diverse format. He founded the first commercial mix show in Detroit centered on Latin house and dance music titled "The Freestyle Explosion”.

The show garnered national attention for Marquis, including an affiliation with the prestigious Dance Music Authority (DMA) magazine.
Now after 6 years, Marquis has been sought out after again from the newest number one hit music station WKQI (Channel) 955 to help head up what will soon become the hottest mix show team "The Bomb Squad" & a new nightly mix show program in Metro Detroit called "The Aftershock"

Marquis's devotion to good music as opposed to a perceived category made him the perfect representative. His high standards help set the tone for his label and other ventures. Working as a producer, remixer on tracks for Upstart, Metroplex, KMS, Barak Recs. and a number of other Detroit labels. He also made his mark remixing major label artists from Aretha Franklin, Beanie Man, Steely Dan, Daft Phunk, Donna Blakely, Emelee and a whole host of others. While only available as promotional items, the mixes are highly sought out by DJs in the know.
Showing community consciousness and responsibility, he has also performed at various benefit events, including the "Geared for Life Motor Ball" a fund-raiser for organizations providing service to those affected by HIV/Aids in the Detroit community. Marquis also holds the honor of being the only DJ to perform during the opening/halftime shows for both the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Shock and he graced the stage of the 2001 African World Festival in Detroit. Nominated 5 times for the Detroit Music Award for his production work and Djing, voted Metro's Detroit #1 Night Club DJ and founding events such as "TKO: Detroit DJs on the Deck", a two-day showcase that featured local and world-famous DJs.

Currently DJ Marquis continues to be sought out to create and play quality music, paying no mind to narrow definitions of genre and categories. As the residence Music Video DJ/VJ at Dino Ciccarelli of the Red Wings night club “Club 22” & his summer residency at The Beach Grill he’s remained focused on good music in a variety of styles-utilizing the best of all worlds to deliver to the listeners & patrons a fresh and exciting musical and visual experience.
